Bite Size Review: While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory

Quick Summary:

While We Were Dating by Jasmine Guillory is the last book in her “Wedding Date” series, which follows the story of Ben Stephens and Anna Gardiner. If you’ve read any of the other “Wedding Date” books, especially “The Wedding Date” and “The Wedding Party,”  Ben’s name should look familiar as he’s Theo’s brother. Ben, an advertising exec, gets the opportunity of a lifetime to run a pitch presentation to actress Anna Gardiner. Ben is initially stunned by Anna’s beauty, which flusters him at first, but his excellent presentation skills (and his looks) help Anna make the decision to go with Ben’s agency for her campaign – but only if Ben will be leading.

Plot Overview:

As they began working together, the lines of professionalism begin to blur between Ben and Anna, which becomes a challenge for Ben as he begins to fall for her. Anna on the other hand is juggling her budding relationship with Ben, restoring her public image, working as an actress, and managing her anxiety all at the same time. Whatever is happening between her and Ben isn’t her top priority as she’s trying to get back into work after having to take a step back from the limelight. Things come to a head as this becomes apparent to Ben, causing their relationship to become fragile.

Final Thoughts + Ratings:

While We Were Dating is one of my favorite romance reads, and was the very first book I finished in one day! That accomplishment holds a very special place in my heart! I loved seeing the portrayal of Black love in this book, and the rest of the “Wedding Date” series. I also loved seeing Anna talk about her anxiety – I really identified with her and her struggle to manage her anxiety in a way that made sense to her. And on top of all that, the book is a lil spicy! I definitely recommend this book, and the rest of the “Wedding Date” series (reviews for the rest of the series coming soon!)
