Book Review: Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan

The highly anticipated third book in Kennedy Ryan’s Skyland Series, Can’t Get Enough, focuses on Hendrix Barry, the bad bitch rich auntie we met in Before I Let Go and This Could Be Us. Hendrix is a successful business woman who knows what she wants and goes out to get it in everything except love. Not that she’s ever without a sexual partner when needed, but she hadn’t pursued a real romantic connection before. Consumed by achieving her professional goals and dreams, love didn’t seem to appear on the to do list despite sometimes yearning for a connection like her friends and their partners. That is, until she met Maverick Bell.

Maverick Bell is a billionaire tech mogul who, like Hendrix, goes after what he wants and succeeds. With money not being a barrier, thanks to his savvy business mind, he loves to take (calculated) risks to go after what he wants. When Maverick meets Hendrix, he’s fresh off of a relationship with one of Hendrix’s business partners, which complicates things as the attraction between them is instant. Not one to turn down a challenge, Maverick is intent on pursuing Hendrix, despite her shutting it down every time out of respect for her business partner – even though in her heart, she wants to consider what being with Maverick would be like. Will Hendrix gamble her professional relationship for a personal one, or is love too big of a risk?

Having read Before I Let Go and This Could Be Us prior to this, I already knew who Hendrix was. Everyone was looking forward to her story after seeing the kind of character she was compared to Yasmen and Soledad; myself included. That said, I felt slightly underwhelmed and a little bored reading through this book. I feel like I had higher expectations for her story given the energy she gave off in the first two books. Something about Hendrix and Maverick fell flat to me and it may be because chemistry between the two of them is missing. Sure, there’s attraction and lust but aside from both of them feeling seen by each other, they’re missing some depth. Also his pursual of Hendrix at first gave intense love bombing vibes. Like I get it, you have money but 100+ champagne roses after trying to shut a romantic connection down is not it.

Regardless of that, Hendrix’s story is complex given the difficulties with navigating her mother’s health issues on top of continuing to be successful in her career; she has to figure out how to balance both without sacrificing either. Adding on the layer of a romantic relationship could have set things off for her but Maverick sees Hendrix and he understands her on a professional and emotional level. They both have similarities in ambition and work ethic, but also in their values and what’s important to them. A key difference for Hendrix compared to Yasmen and Soledad is her choosing to stay child free. It’s refreshing to read a story about a woman in her 40s who is truly standing her ground on not wanting children and finding a partner that aligns with that vision. Stories like these give me hope that there are people out there like this that deserve to be seen and are valuable despite what society may dictate.

Overall, Can’t Get Enough was still a great read despite my initial feelings about my own expectations for her story. If you’ve read the rest of the Skyland series, strongly recommend finishing it with Can’t Get Enough.
